$SOMA

$SOMA has not yet been released. We do not foresee it TGEing until 2027 at the earliest, possibly later. The ticker and branding of this token may change before release.

$SOMA is the token that represents ownership and governance over the Asphodel ecosystem - that is, the Worlds and the economies inside them.

In order to make our worlds immortal, we need to remove all centralized points of failure. A key one is our own team, Asphodel Studios. While we currently develop and incubate Asphodel, we know we need to progressively renounce control for this project to succeed.

With some key areas - like the core Prologue systems - we want to eventually renounce the smart contracts entirely and let the systems run forever with no human owner. However, even if certain core world contracts will be truly ossified, there are other areas - economic management, long-term game balance, defining in-world rules or laws - where we would prefer to hand over control to a permanent, user-run organization. We would also expect for this organization to progressively manage more and more of the world's treasury over time, and to become the permanent steward of the protocol into the far future.

Distribution and Launch

The majority of the $SOMA supply, at least 60%, will be distributed to active users of the Asphodel ecosystem. We will not be publishing final numbers on this until closer to launch.
