# What Is Asphodel?

Asphodel is an immortal onchain world that lives on Ethereum.

The Asphodel Prologue is the first part of Asphodel to be released. It's a roguelike autobattler game where you mint a Taruchi, train it, shape its build, and send it into the arena to fight. After you level up enough, you'll enter an elimination festival where the winners get ONYX as rewards... and if you can survive 3 festivals, your Taruchi will **Ascend** to become a permanent NFT.

You don't push buttons in battle. Your job is everything before the gate: stats, training, affinities, and battle specs. The fight itself resolves automatically and entirely on-chain, with every result verifiable and every fallen Taruchi remembered.

The stakes are real. You need ONYX to play, and over 90% of all ONYX spent in-game goes back to players as rewards. If your Taruchi is one of the small number that survive the full gauntlet and ascend, you have a jackpot prize waiting for you - as well as a permanent, tradable NFT that can be used in other Asphodel game modes in future. If you fail, your Taruchi will be gone forever.

Prologue is the first piece of **Asphodel**, and an introduction to its world. For the full vision, the tokenomics, and more details on the rest of this project, see the [**Whitepaper**](https://docs.asphodel.io/). If you want to know how to get started and play, keep reading.
